The Parent Support Network (PSN) is a team of parents and carers who volunteer to support the smooth running of our youth sections — Joeys, Cubs, Scouts.
The PSN helps Leaders deliver the program by providing extra hands, supervision and practical assistance where needed.
Every family is encouraged to take part in the PSN in some way throughout the year.
What Is the PSN?
The Parent Support Network (PSN) is our way of ensuring that the responsibilities of running 1st Sunbury are shared fairly across all families. Scouting is a community-led organisation, and our group relies heavily on volunteer support to provide a safe, fun, and active program for our youth.
Each family is expected to contribute around 4–6 hours per semester. These small contributions make a huge difference and help keep our group running smoothly.
Why the PSN Matters
With more than 50 families in our group, spreading the workload ensures that no single person is overwhelmed. Tasks such as fundraising, working bees, assisting leaders, or helping at events directly support the programs enjoyed by our Joeys, Cubs, and Scouts.
The PSN strengthens the sense of community in our group, helps keep costs down, and ensures our young people continue to enjoy high-quality Scouting activities.
How Families Can Contribute
Becoming a Leader
Registered leaders automatically fulfil their PSN requirement each semester. Leaders support youth directly and are a vital part of running weekly programs.
Becoming an Adult Helper
Adult Helpers assist leaders at sessions on a semi-regular basis. It’s a great way to be involved. Speak to a leader to find out how to register.
Holding a Role on the Parent Committee
Committee roles also satisfy the PSN requirement. These positions help manage the administrative and operational side of the group.
Helping at BBQ Fundraisers
BBQs—such as our regular Bunnings BBQs or the SunFest stall—are essential fundraising events. Helping at one BBQ for the shift duration fulfills your semester’s PSN contribution.
Raffle Ticket Sales
We run raffle ticket stalls at the Sunbury Post Office throughout the year. These are great fundraising opportunities and youth members can join in alongside their parent.
Working Bees
Assisting with hall cleaning, maintenance, or minor repairs also counts toward fulfilling your PSN time.
Opting Out of the PSN
Families who are unable to contribute may choose to opt out by paying a $50 fee per semester.
This fee goes directly toward program materials and group activities.
Families who join the group mid-semester or in their first semester are exempt from this fee.
